WHERE IS LITTLE MAN?

This is how Little Man plays, "Hide 'n Seek."  ;)

3 MOST VIVID CHILDHOOD MEMORIES

I thought I'd share my three most vivid childhood memories today, and maybe some of you will leave a comment and share at least one of yours.  I'd love to hear them.  :)

Stone Soup
1.  My 1st grade teacher was an older lady with shocking short white hair.  She was thin, and always had a smile for me . . . and that smile was always painted with bright lipstick.  One day she brought a HUGE pot to school, and put in in our classroom.  She also brought a large, clean rock.  That day our class made a delicious pot of Stone Soup.  We ate that soup, and I have never forgotten it.  What a difference one teacher can make!

2.  When I was in the 3rd or 4th grade my cousin and I were playing outside when a bird flew overhead and pooped on her.  I started laughing because I thought it was funny, and she got mad.  She got so mad that she blurted out that my dad wasn't really my dad.  I asked my mom about it, and that's how I ended up going to a judge and being adopted.

3.  When I was a little girl we had two Teddybear Hampsters.  The female had 8 or 10 babies one winter.  I can't remember exactly how many, but I sure do remember how tiny they were.  Well, it was cold and we had one of those old-time register heaters for warming up the house.  Mom set the hampster cage on top of that heater one night before we went to bed, and covered it with a towel.  The next morning those hampsters were all dead.  The metal cage got hot from sitting on that register, and they had "cooked" during the night.  I remember we buried two large matchboxes with the "mom and daddy," and the rest were tiny match boxes for the babies.  My mom has always been an animal lover, and I know she just felt terrible about what happened.  What a sad, but vivid memory.  :(

HUEVOS RANCHEROS

Ingredients:
Corn tortilla, egg, shredded cheese, lunchmeat, salsa, Olive oil (not pictured)

Fry tortilla soft-crisp in a little Olive oil on medium heat.

Drain tortilla on a paper towel.  Spread shredded cheese on hot tortilla so it will melt.

Warm lunchmeat in pan, and place on top of melted cheese.

Fry an egg in a little Olive oil turning once to ensure it is cooked through.  (Allow yolk to remain "dippy.")  Salt and pepper, to taste.

Top lunchmeat with fried egg.

Spice it up with some salsa.

WARNING!!!  This breakfast meal can be extremely messy.  Enjoy!  :)

OFF TO SEE THE DENTIST

We had dentist appointments this week.  Little Man got to walk around and witness what was happening to his older brother and sisters.  He saw them get panoramic x-rays, pictures of their teeth, and cleanings.  He heard the whirr of the utensils, and couldn't wait to wear the glasses which he calls, "eyes."  It's obviously easier for him to say than, "glasses." :)

After a little while, he and I went out to the children's waiting room so he could play with Legos and look at spiders in a magazine.  When it was his turn to see the dentist he burst out of the playroom door and nearly took out the dental hygienist in one fell swoop.  (He was so excited for his turn!)  He followed the labryinth to his room, hopped up on the chair, and laid as stiff and still as a corpse.  The only thing moving on his body were his baby brown eyes when he got a chance to see his teeth on the tv and then to watch cartoons as he got his cleaning.

NOW HE LOVES TO BRUSH HIS TEETH!

We couldn't have asked for a better first time dental visit.

Looking at his teeth on the television screen in the ceiling.  He was excited about wearing the "eyes."

Laying so calm and still through the entire cleaning.

HOW TO HEM A ROUND SKIRT

See how this skirts hem is rounded instead of running straight across?

Simply fold the skirt lengthwise from top to bottom one time . . .

. . . two times, three times (however many times needed to get it to a manageable thickness).  Be sure to align the folds and keep them tidy.

Place the skirt on a self-healing cutting mat, then measure the length you wish to remove, and place a yardstick evenly across the length where the cut will be made.  Using the markings on the cutting mat will help to produce a straight line along which to cut.

With a rotary cutter, cut the fabric using the yardstick as a guide.  Press firmly and be very careful not to get cut.  (The blade on a rotary cutter is extremely sharp.)

"Voila!"

Using a hot iron, press a 1/4 to 1/2-inch hem all around.  Repeat this process by folding the pressed hem 1/4 to 1/2-inch on itself, and press a second time.  (This will hide the raw edges.)  Pin the hem in place, if desired.  Stitch the hem with a straight stitch all around making sure to lock the final stitch in place by backstitching.

The finished hem.

The finished product with a nicely shortened rounded hem.

UP, UP, AND AWAY

Such an incredibly lovely day!  I couldn't resist recording some serious romping in the great outdoors and having some fun with balloons.  Take a look-see.

Oh, no!!!

Back in the game!
